On August 8, the theme at Ecomare is the whale! Discover more about the giants of the sea on this special Day of the Whale.
Whale hospital
The SOS Dolphin Foundation has a Whale Hospital on the outdoor terrace. Here you can play games and perform first aid on a life-size porpoise dummy. Because there are many pregnant humpback females this year, they have biscuits with ‘muisjes’ for the visitors. As long as the supply last!
Whale Bone Show
Curator Arthur Oosterbaan will give a whale bone show, biologist Pierre Bonnet will give a talk about dissecting whales and whale expert Adrie and Ineke Vonk will give a slideshow presentation about their voyages to humpback whales. The porpoises will be fed at their normal times, 10.30 a.m. and 1.30 p.m. During the feedings, the animal caretaker will tell about these endearing mini-whales from the North Sea. Special attention will also be paid to the whale at the Beach Find cart and in the Sea Laboratory.
